Hey, That's My Cape! – Simple Comic Halloween Costumes

Hands down, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love costumes more than your average person, which is probably why I took to cosplay so well when I realized that was a thing. I pride myself on never having purchased a store-bought costume for Halloween and only repeating the same costume once (with different outfits), but I blame my mom for that one.

Most adults I know don’t have the time, energy or care to dress up for the holiday anymore but what a lot of people don’t realize is Halloween costumes don’t have to be complicated to be awesome. Here are some comic book/superhero characters you could dress as this weekend, hopefully without looking like you threw your costume together at the last minute.

I did a couple of video interviews at New York Comic Con, one of them with the always humble and talented Scott Snyder. It was pure chance that I happened to be wearing my Oracle/Batgirl costume at the time but boy was it awesome.

Hey, That's My Cape! – NYCC 2011 Wrap-Up

San Diego Comic-Con...I mean, New York Comic Con was a blast this year! My hometown show is always a treat. (Mostly because I don’t have to go anywhere but I still get to see all my friends.) NYCC always had a different feel to it than any other con for a variety of reasons but this year it seemed to take on a life of it’s own. I was there all four days and I know for a fact there were several areas of the convention floor I never even got close to.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that I feel like I missed a lot because of the size and the fact that nothing was in the same place it was the previous year. I barely made it to any panels because I got stuck trying to see everything on the floor. I did get to spend quality time with friends though and to me, that’s one of the best parts about cons.

Don't just be a zombie this Halloween, be a WALKING DEAD™ ZOMBIE

With AMC making it a annual event premiering The Walking Dead in October, it's only reasonable that we populate the world with zombies on Halloween. Well now Target makes it even easier with The Walking Dead™ zombie masks and costumes!

Granted, I'm not sure I'd be able to look at anyone wearing the "Split Jaw Latex Prosthetics," it's still infinitely cool. Retails for $12.99.

Might be a little difficult to eat wearing the "Decayed Zombie Deluxe Mask."

You'll have to accessorize the "Little Girl Mouth Latex Prosthetics" with your own pink fluffy robe but you'll guarantee children never come trick-or-treating at your house again. This one is unfortunately sold out online.

And finally, if you're going for hospital chic this year, I'd suggest purchasing the "Men's The Walking Dead Patient's Gown Costume." Perfect for the runway or the roadway.

Or, you know, you could just buy generic zombie makeup and do it yourself. :)

Hey, That's My Cape! – How I Came To Love Superheroines

Last week I complained about some recent comics (you know the ones) and my frustration with parts of the industry that still don’t understand where people like me are coming from. And when I say people like me I don’t necessarily mean just women, as I know some men share my sentiments on the current controversy as well, but comic fans who want more from their favorite publishers, comic fans who have a specific history with their characters.

I felt like I should share with you all some of where I come from personally as a fan. I can try and speak on behalf of the countless stories I’ve heard from others on this topic but I can only truly speak for myself and how I view things. I’ve seen a lot of readers forget that’s why I’m here to write this column, to share my own outlook. Opinions are just that, sometimes people agree, sometimes they don’t and we form those opinions based on our personal experiences.

My first day!

My new office has a cardboard David Tennant, how could I not love it there? Had a great first day at my new job, here's what I worked on:

I won't be doing this every day so you're going to have to pay attention to my Twitter (or go to TheMarySue.com on your own!) to keep up on on my writing. Needless to say, things may be a little slow on good ol' Has Boobs, Reads Comics and elsewhere until I can get the hang of my new workload/schedule and I really do apologize for that. It's a big change for me but as I said, and can safely say after day one, I am very excited for it. Thanks for sticking with me and for all the support you've been throwing my way, it means a lot.

And with that, I'm going to pass out and do it all over again tomorrow. :)
