Hey, That's My Cape! - Farewell to Gates/Igle's SUPERGIRL

It was with a heavy heart last week that I picked up Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle’s last issue of Supergirl. I’d like to say in protest that it was the last issue I’m ever going to pick up because I loved their work so much and don’t want to think about anyone else on her book but I can’t because I love the character Supergirl even more.

When my mom first rented the Supergirl film starring Helen Slater from our local library I doubt she had any idea the monster she was about to create. I wore my Supergirl pajamas as my Halloween costume that year and never looked back. I know a lot of people will say that movie was terrible but it captivated me as a young girl and it will always be one of my favorites. Just like Gates and Igle’s run.

Read my farewell to the team that made Supergirl great again in this week's Hey, That's My Cape! at Newsarama.

I'm bummed about this shift in creative team, too. I only started reading "Supergirl" when Gates and Igle took over, in connection with the overarching "New Krypton" saga, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and hope the new hands at the helm can keep steering a great course for the Maid of Might.

I really need to give the Slater movie another try... I rented it with a friend who was spending the night once in middle school; I was content to watch it just once, but he really grooved on Faye Dunaway for some reason (what middle school kid is so into Faye Dunaway?!?!), and watched it ad nauseam the whole time!

Hey Jill. Nice article. I am glad that you enjoyed the entire run of SG. I was turned into a fan when Rucka/Kelly revamped her. She was made ito the type of heroine I could identify with. Though DC tried to change her to make her more appealing to teenage girls. Sterling Gates brought her back to her true self in issue #33. I am sorry to see him leave the book. But I hope that the new writer maintains who she is. The last thing I would hate to see is her neutered again.
