Could this week get any better? Just a few days ago it was announced Guillermo del Toro would be producing a Deadman movie, today I find out Guy Ritchie is directing Lobo.
Lobo will be produced by Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona. Don Payne (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) has written the most recent draft of the script which Variety describes thusly, "In the film, he will be an indestructible, blue-skinned, 7-foot-tall and heavily muscled antihero who drives a pimped-out motorcycle and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small-town teenaged girl to stop the creatures." Apparently it will rely heavily on special effects. No shit.
The Hollywood Reporter says, "Doug Liman was previously attached to direct the project, though Silver, who has been developing the project for the last 10 years, was looking to reunite with Ritchie, with whom he just wrapped 'Sherlock Holmes.'” Variety also says Warner Bros. is going for a PG-13 rating for this one which sounds almost impossible considering the main character but hey, it's not like it hasn't been done before.
Although Liman would have been great, personally, I think Ritchie is the perfect fit for Lobo. I'm a bit nervous with him considering it's a superhero flick but maybe that's just the kind of different approach we need to the genre. Now, where to begin on casting such an epic character?
