Hello, Snotface!

Mother, do you remember when I was little, I had a friend, he was make-believe? Drop Dead Fred is being reborn! Oddly enough, I'm really excited about that. So excited, I feel the need to make a mud pie.

The best part? Universal is remaking the kookie early 90's comedy with none other than British comedian Russell Brand in the lead role says The Hollywood Reporter. "The take for the new 'Fred' is to make a film in the tone of 'Beetlejuice,' building a universe around the concept of imaginary friends," they wrote. Dennis McNicholas, who's no stranger to remakes, will be penning the new script. He's one of the writers on Universal's upcoming Land of the Lost. Producer for the now filming Scott Pilgrim movie, Marc Platt, will take on that same role for Fred as well.

As much as I loathe most remakes, I can honestly say I can't wait to see this one. Even though I never had an imaginary friend growing up, Drop Dead Fred was one of my favorite movies. And I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone more suited for the role than Brand. My suggestion for Phoebe Cates' character? Jessica Alba. What do you think?

A world where Russell Brand, Tyra Banks, Paris Hilton, and greasy, rat-like emo haircuts are accepted is a world that's growing harder and harder to stay in. I'm sorry to say, but I find nothing good about this news. My childhood movies are being shat upon one by one. No more chocolate factories and now no more imaginary friends.

I happen to have found Russell Brand very funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And not having found the original Drop DEad Fred to be a very good movie, this remake actually sounds intriguing to me.

However, doesn't the cartoon show Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends cover this topic already??

I think Brand can be very funny. He has a rather charming, self-effacing style that I like.

A bit tired of remakes, however.

A Tweet from Russell Brand:

"rustyrockets: Drop Dead Fred - true. Arthur - true, Kinky Bible - a film I will never make."

No, no no. Not Alba, she is waaay overrated (but is still smoking hot). I say pick an unknown.

Alba would be a poor choice. Though very pretty she has no comedic timing.

We need someone who can portray vulnerability and charm. Someone sweet that you can empathize with.

Anna Friel (Who worked with the proposed director in Land of the Lost too)

Rusell Brand is very close to Rik Mayall in more then appearance. He's probably the best choice for this remake.

I think "Drop Dead Fred" without Rik Mayall would be very poor. Nobody can do a role, Rik did before. In fact, I think the movie would be great if just Rik played Fred again. Who cares about the age of Fred? xD
