What is the World (of Warcraft) coming to?

I don't play World of Warcraft and I don't pretend to know anything about it. But really, did they have to go there?

Meet Haris Pilton. Patch 2.4.3 has introduced this socialite look-a-like to combat rabid inflation in the game. The NPC has apparently been around for a while now but has only just found a purpose in life: selling giant bags and expensive jewelry to rid you of some of that pesky Gold.

In real life, printing more money just makes what you already have worthless. Blizzard Entertainment decided to take action before those players who came upon Gold too readily had nothing to spend it on. They hope Pilton's extravagant wares will level out the economy. Now WoW's mini-Bill Gates' can breath easy.

You can find Pilton at the World's End Tavern in the Lower City of Shattrath. Her "Gigantique" bag is the largest of it's kind and will set you back 1200g. Want to show your lady love just how much you care? Purchase a Gold Eternium Band from the socialite for 3000g. It's the most expensive vendor item ever and will be sure to secure your affections. We all know money equals love right?

As if that's not strange enough, supposedly if you have The Eye of Divinity equipped you'll be able to see the (ex)BFF Ricole Nichie standing next to Haris Pilton. But of course wherever Pilton is, her trusty Tinkerbell is not far behind. That's hot. (I promise to never say that again.)

What's next? Spitney Beers showing up? She could shave her head with an axe and overturn people's horse-drawn carts.

There is a lot of awesome in the idea of making unique characters like that. Tacky and sad, but awesome.

I'm *really* not a fan of World of Warcraft (I lost my last boyfriend to it...well, not EXACTLY, but he became so focused on the damn game that I decided I was much happier single!), but I have to admit that this post made me chuckle. Seems like a clever and unconventional thing for those WoW folks to try.

Wow, just...wow. I've heard of similar circumstances over the years though.
